Monarch Eczema Care is an all natural thick, rich emollient that softens skin and adds moisture. It significantly decreases dryness and scaling of the skin. In addition to the natural products contained in the Eczema Care formula, some key ingredients in are coconut oil, cocoa butter and shea butter. These are excellent moisturizers and do not create a barrier to air flow to the skin, which is essential. With eczema the skin becomes very dry. Dry skin tends to 'flare-up' into patches of eczema. Eczema Care prevents the skin from becoming dry and helps to protect the skin from irritants. This helps to prevent itching and reduces the frequency of eczema flare-ups. (This is NOT a steroid cream or ointment which reduces inflammation and clear flare-ups of eczema.) It's not unusual for physicians to prescribe a topical steroid (steroid creams and ointments) to use when eczema flares up. Topical steroids are very different from Eczema Care, and should be used according to doctor's orders. When using a topical steroid, apply Eczema Care first. Wait 10-15 minutes after applying Eczema care before applying a topical corticosteroid. Eczema Care should be allowed to absorb before a topical steroid is applied (the skin should be moist or slightly tacky, but not slippery, when applying the steroid). Once the eczema area is maintaining moisture and redness, scaling and itching are no longer an issue discontinue using the Eczema Care and apply Skin Deep Extra Dry Emollient to the area morning and night.
